Second hearing set on walleye bill in Columbus
A second hearing on a bill to make walleye a noncommercial species and ban gill nets in Lake Erie is planned in Columbus on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, led by State Rep. David Hartley, heard strong turnout at the first session, with $2.5 million proposed to buy out Ohio commercial fishing interests. The measure, combining House Bills 127 and 128, includes a $250,000 inland lakes and Ohio River study unknowns, and could still take time to become law before commercial fishing resumes in March. The hearing will be in Room 1B of the capitol.
