Trains Collision Near Huron Injures Crew Members
A westbound Conrail freight collision near Huron Friday derailed 18 cars and two locomotives. Thomas Serrano, 26, escaped with a knee injury and a cut above the eye after fleeing down a marshy embankment as fellow workers shouted run. Engineer John Sharrock, Charles Foster, and David Arnovitz rode the engines. Foster and Arnovitz jumped clear, Sharrock rode out the impact. Dispatchers in Toledo tied the crash to a switching error by a Conrail dispatcher. Crew members suffered various injuries. no witnesses were found at nearby Walski's Lodge.
