Lebanon asks UN and US for urgent intervention
Interior Minister Camille Chamoun appealed to the United States and the United Nations as Palestinian and leftist forces, backed by armored cars and artillery, pressed across Lebanon with about 7 000 PLA troops and 15 000 allies. Thousands of refugees were evacuated from Christian towns as battles raged near Beirut. casualties were feared.
