Local inventor and wife among dead in Ohio jet crash

A 10 seat jet nosedived near Lorain County Regional Airport killing Vermilion Township inventor Donald Brown and his wife Shirley, along with pilot Wesley Roemer and co-pilot John Mengelson. The crash happened around 2:05 p.m. as the aircraft approached from the west, with investigators noting severe wreckage and a difficult scene to reach.

Vermilion entrepreneur Don Brown built Donn Corp empire

Vermilion Township businessman Don Brown, a 89 year old inventor and pilot, created a drop ceiling grid system that grew into a multi million dollar Westlake empire, Donn Corp. In 1985 sales neared 300 million dollars before a 1986 sale of 2.8 million USG shares. He later reemerged as a land investor, with a 2008 deal: Richard E. Jacobs Groups paid 5 million for about 103 acres.

LCT cuts Para-Transit for disabled riders in Elyria

Elyria residents Carol Dennison and Adrian Linden, both disabled, must seek new transport as Lorain County Transit slashes Para-Transit. Dial-A-Ride remains only for those within three quarters of a mile of the two remaining fixed routes, with many riders notified less than a day before changes. Lorain council seeks Obama visit to Lorain steel mill

Lorain City Council plans a resolution urging President Obama to visit Republic Engineered Products on his Main Street tour.
