What’s at stake in Iran hostage asset deal clocks billions

Iran and the United States discuss freeing 52 hostages in exchange for billions in frozen Iranian assets. Reported figures cite 8 to 9 billion dollars in assets for the Americans, with a $66 billion asset pool under dispute and international arbitration on the remainder. The assets were frozen November 14, 1979, after the embassy seizure. Iran’s four demands included asset return, dropping claims from the seizure, shah’s wealth, and non interference pledge. The shah’s wealth demand was dropped from ten billion to resolve talks.
