Funeral service for Gilbert Bruce Pumphrey will be held Wednesday at 2 PM at Hemper Funeral Home Amherst with Rev Ralph Neighbour officiating. He died Saturday evening in St Joseph Hospital Lorain after a short illness. Surviving are two daughters Mary Louise and Linda Marie and sister Mrs Lila Jane Dunlap. His mother and father predeceased him. He was 30, a senior designer at Bendix Westinghouse Automotive Airbrake Co Elva and a member of the Church of the Open Door Elyria. Private graveside services were to be held this afternoon at Butternut Ridge Cemetery. The Bogner Funeral Home North Ridgeville handled arrangements. Memorials may go to the family.

Lorain resident Lorain-Franklin Oscar Roberts age 26 of 1827 East 30th Street was charged with embezzlement from the Pay less Gasoline Station at 28th Street and Vine Avenue. Police say he attempted to leave with $50 reported by assistant manager Carl Carver and later had $28 recovered. $492 was also missing from the station safe over the weekend.

Mayor Marcellus Diederich is set to appoint Mrs Frieda Smith of Stoney Ridge Road as the new mayor's secretary at the council meeting. The starting salary is 3960 with a top pay of 45460. Milan experienced a 95 minute blackout when a defective transformer owned by Ohio Edison Co failed just before 11 am. An 8 year old Elyria boy was admitted to Elyria Memorial Hospital ICU after being struck by a car while crossing Chestnut Street at Broad Street. The driver James E Qualls 35 of 86 High Street reported the light was green. The boy suffered a fractured leg and cuts to the chin and forehead and is listed in serious condition. The boy is son of Mr and Mrs Robert C Hamlin Jr of 127 Parkview Court. Police say the accident occurred about 11 am yesterday. The car was southbound on Chestnut Street.
Elyria police report three people injured in a morning crash at Cleveland Street and Kennedy Memorial Parkway. Ralph Mills 32 of Garfield Ave, his wife Wanda 25, and their son Keith were taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital with unknown conditions after a collision involving a car and a truck. Damage to the Mills car described as heavy.
