Judge Adrian Bedeski ruled the speedy-trial requirement was violated after delays and holiday gaps, dismissing the case though indictments had been returned. The prosecution plans an appeal.

Toxic gas cloud from Shamrock blast kills two in Ashtabula
An explosion at the Diamond Shamrock chemical plant in Ashtabula Township killed two workers and injured 18 others. Ammonium dichromate ignition sent a toxic green cloud drifting over Lake Erie, with officials saying the cloud posed no community danger.
