Soldier gets life for killing sergeant at Fort Gordon
Fort Gordon soldier Spec. 5 Henry Scott, 22, was sentenced by a five member general court martial to life in prison at hard labor for killing a sergeant who had ordered his live in girlfriend to move out of her apartment and live on base. He received a dishonorable discharge and a rank reduction to E-1 with forfeiture of pay. The trial ended after 40 minutes of deliberation with the life sentence.

Brazilian bridge collapses killing tourists at Sete Quedas
A 75 year old suspension bridge at Sete Quedas in Brazil snapped sending 60 to 70 tourists into the Parana River gorge. At least 17 died, 30 survived, with many bodies believed still in the river as rescuers planned nets downstream. Local authorities cited poor maintenance and reports that crowds had swung the bridge prior to the collapse.
