Parker Hannifin found liable in Carnahan plane crash
A Kansas City jury ruled Parker Hannifin negligent in the 2000 plane crash that killed Gov. Mel Carnahan, his son Randy, and aide Chris Sifford. The verdict awards the Carnahan family 4 million dollars in compensatory damages split as 3 million to Mel Carnahan and 1 million to Randy Carnahan, with no punitive damages. The company argued the crash stemmed from the pilot’s instrument failure and blamed the weather. Parker Hannifin spokeswoman Lorrie Crum said no appeal is planned, calling the verdict a compromise and noting the company’s name is vindicated.
