Former Avon Lake instructor resentenced to four years
Erin Stephens, 33, previously sentenced in 2023 to six years for sexually abusing a former student, had her prison term reduced to four years by Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Christopher Rothgery on appeal. She will receive credit for about 22 months served. Stephens faced three counts of sexual battery from a 2023 Avon Lake ATA Martial Arts case.

Children organize monthly community meal at Lorain church
At Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain children and teens helped with onions bacon and greens for a nightly community meal. Jim Goforth of Solidarity Urban Farms oversaw prep as volunteers opened cans and simmered sloppy joe meat. This was the second child led session with adult supervision, expanding from Thursdays to a monthly Tuesday meal.

Lorain murder case opens over Lang beating death
Lorain County Common Pleas jury hears opening statements in the 2020 murder trial of Malakhi Young, 20, charged with murder robbery burglary and assault in the beating death of Oscar Lang Jr. a 78 year old U S Army veteran. Prosecutors say a home invasion on West 25th Street in July 2020 led to Lang’s death a month later after Young allegedly chose violent actions. Lang a Ford retiree and Vietnam veteran had lived in Lorain for 50 years.
