B is for Buckeye shows Ohio history letter by letter

Ohio writer Marcia Schonberg confines state history to 26 letters in B is for Buckeye. The book blends poems and illustrations for classrooms and homes, highlighting Buckeye State themes from Buckeye trees to Columbus, with 25,000 copies printed and another 20,000 planned.

Ohio to honor first black lawmaker with Williams memorial

The Ohio Statehouse will convert the Southwest Passageway into a George Washington Williams memorial. Williams, Cincinnati Republican, served in 1879 80 and wrote the first Black history from their own view. Fundraising aims at 220000 for a bust by Ed Dwight and period furnishings. Governor Taft backs the effort.

Billboard Winners of Safe Schools 2000 NIE Contest

Several area schools entered the Chronicle Telegram NIE program for Safe Schools 2000 to create slogans and drawings about good character. Winners are shown with their teachers. the grand prize artwork will appear on three Lorain County billboards in late January.
