Deputy and two others injured in route 57 crash

Deputy John Steenstra was treated for minor injuries after a crash at state Route 57 and Bell Avenue while responding to a call. The red pickup driven by Greg Martin and another vehicle driven by Debra Sims were not injured.

Ruling may force courts to determine predator status

An Ohio appeals court ruling could require courts to assess sexual offender status before labeling inmates as sexual predators at parole. Gerald W. Krueger, after 16 years in prison, disputes the 1999 predator finding, arguing he is not a threat under a 1997 law governing labels.

Elyria native Bally to lead OSU band at inauguration parade

Elyria High School graduate Matthew Bally, OSU marching band drum major for the past two years, will lead the band in the inaugural parade in Washington, D C. He called the invitation a fitting finale to his career and hopes for a strong OSU performance before President George W Bush. Bally, who is a senior at OSU, will join fellow band members in meeting US Representative Sherrod Brown and performing Beautiful Ohio and the OSU fight song.

Oberlin man pleads guilty to attempted murder charge

An 18 year old Oberlin man pleaded guilty to attempting to kill an Oberlin College student Taylor Wynn from South Pleasant Street. He faces up to 21 years in prison and will be sentenced at 9:30 am Wednesday. Wynn pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted murder aggravated robbery aggravated burglary felonious assault and burglary after negotiations with prosecutors. The victim was stabbed at Noah Hall dorm in November 1999 and treated for neck head and shoulder wounds. Wynn fled to Louisville before turning himself in.

Ridgeville to discuss ban on noisy rake brakes

North Ridgeville officials consider an ordinance to ban rake brakes on trucks amid a resident complaint. The 7:30 p.m. meeting will include public hearings and a preliminary vote on west side development plans related to Kingston Place and Forest City proposed housing.
