Handicapped workers thrive at Christie Lane
NORWALK A generation ago Andy Kirkpatrick would have sat idle but today he and dozens of mentally and developmentally handicapped residents work at Christie Lane a tax supported workshop. They sew assemble and stuff envelopes for subcontractors while staff adapt tools and create new ones to help them complete tasks. The program emphasizes community integration and morale through outings and jobs in town, though transportation remains a major hurdle.
