National Thrift Week encourages careful purchasing and saving to build happiness and security. The idea, attributed to Ben Franklin, urges practical thrift as a lasting investment in personal welfare and future stability.
A mixed page item includes a health column by Claud North Chrissan, M.D., promoting sunshine and cod liver oil to prevent rickets in infants, detailing how lack of sunlight and minerals weakens bones and leads to bowlegs, pigeon chest, and spine curvature, with notes on age groups and seasonal factors. Also contains legal public notices about stockholders meetings and estate schedules, with names and dates scattered amid the damaged OCR.
A friend in the insurance business bought a new car yesterday after telling us he planned to keep his old Meade another year. The remark sparked a round of surprised reactions at the party and a joking line about a canceled insurance policy sale.
The article notes rickets, once tied to poverty, also appears in Mexican children despite abundant sun. Early signs include irritability, restlessness, head turning, sweating, and abdominal prominence. As deformities develop, the skull sutures Vary and the rib sternum junctions protrude, with bowing when held and at sitting, progressing to permanent leg and spine issues.
A historical health note emphasizes exposure to sun and cod liver oil as essential remedies for rickets. It discusses X rays for diagnosis, cautions on early standing, and mentions alternatives like irradiated yeast and milk, with dosage guidance for infants and toddlers. It also includes a light, unrelated wedding joke fragment at the end.
