Ways of the Earthworm Show Its World Shaping Powers
Earthworms are not mere bait but vital soil engineers. Their burrows ventilate subsoil, support plant growth, and even aid archaeology by moving artifacts to the surface.

Free Coal Bill Passes House in Quick Vote
The ways and means committee report on a one year rebate of duties on foreign coal sailed through the house by a near unanimous vote of 58 to 0. Republican opposition came from coal state members citing Chinese mined coal in Canada as a risk to their industry. Senate action mirrored the house, approving the rebate bill unanimously after transmission, and also passing a militia measure with an amendment removing a reserve force provision. Senator Tifft delivered a long denunciation of trusts and monopolies while sharply criticising the attorney general.
