President Obama used his final State of the Union address to calm fears over the economy and national security, defend his record, and rebuke Republican rivals for harsh campaign rhetoric including direct references to Donald Trump. He warned against tribalism and scapegoating, saying it would fail to deliver the economy or security Americans deserve.
Local leaders weighed in after President Obama delivered his final State of the Union. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown praised progress in the auto sector and economic growth while stressing ongoing work to help working families in Ohio. Brown highlighted four focus areas including economic growth as a priority.

A 9 year old boy was struck by a southbound vehicle while sledding on Meadow Lake Boulevard in the Meadow Lake subdivision. He suffered life threatening injuries and was flown from St John Medical Center to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The case remains under investigation with few details released.
Alan Spitzer, head of Spitzer Great Lakes Ltd. Co., wants Elyria to purchase 100 cemetery plots from Brookdale Cemetery at $800 each, totaling $80,000, arguing the city should take back plots he bought in 1995 for about $35,000. Cemetery manager Rob Given notes concerns about precedent.
