Voyager probes may exit solar system first time
NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 reportedly crossed into interstellar space region beyond the sun's magnetic influence, nearing the heliopause. In their 33rd year, the probes are farther from Earth than Pluto and continue transmitting data to NASA, per Phil Geib of the Chicago Tribune.

Voyager probes map magnetic fields beyond solar system
The Voyager instruments include a magnetometer boom and sensors to study magnetic fields and solar wind interactions around Jupiter and Saturn. The interstellar mission began January 1, and in 2011 both probes provided first glimpses of Milky Way emissions, aiding galaxy formation studies.
