Columbia Astronauts Track Halley as Satcom Debuts
In Cape Canaveral NASA astronauts Hawley Nelson and their crew monitor Halley's Comet from above the atmosphere using CHAMP cameras while Earth blocks sunlight. They study water by observing the ice ball as sun heat releases its constituents. Nelson says photos and spectral measurements will build a three-flight data set. Rep Bill Nelson attends as congressional observer with Bolden aiding Gibson on Columbia.
