Memphis clash leaves eight dead in cop cult siege
Police stormed the home of religious zealot Sanders to rescue hostage Patrolman R S Hester. Seven gunmen died inside and Hester was found battered at the door. Negotiations failed after the statement the devil is dead. Sanders, 49, a black religious zealot with declared mental illness, had been holding officers and others hostage. Observers and relatives fled as gunfire erupted during the dawn operation.
