Stewardess Foils Delta Hijack Attempt In Miami
A Delta Flight 297 passenger threatened to flee to Cuba with a shotgun but stewardess Lynn Sargent vaulted into the cockpit and locked the door. Pilot Harold Rowley landed safely as Miami police arrested Kenneth McPeek of Orchard Lake, Michigan, with a sawed-off shotgun in a duffel bag. McPeek, accompanied by his 3 year old son, faces armed assault charges with bond set at 100000. The incident follows two prior Cuba-diverting hijackings and another United Airlines flight disturbance by a man calling himself El Rojo. Police found no shells on McPeek. The pilot remained committed to completing the landing despite the threat.
