In Norfolk Virginia a 90 year old woman named Mrs. Mould was convicted of taking a banana an apple and a 50 cent bag of peanuts from Farm Fresh Supermarket valued under a dollar. Judge Joseph A. Jordan suspended a one year term condition on good behavior noting she forgot to pay. She wore a yellow scarf and claimed she did not intend to steal.
Penny Lynn Bailey a 19 year old college junior was ordered held without bond after prosecutors argued she might threaten her mother or flee. She is charged with writing a letter threatening to kill her former high school teacher Janet Swanson and with a separate letter to John Hinckley Jr. authorities said. A psychiatric evaluation was ordered to assess seriousness of the threats.
