Prosecution Didn't Probe Klumpp Story Says DiSalle
Governor DiSalle told the Warren County Bar Association that prosecutors did not investigate the innocence claim by Edythe Klumpp in the death of Louise Bergen. He questioned the evidence used to convict and reduce the sentence from death to life, noting the trial did not consider the Klumpp story or Bergen's whereabouts the night of the crime. He defended his reliance on Klumpp's repeated account, even under truth serum, while opposing its use. Public reaction split roughly half by letter, with most correspondence from Cincinnati area and statewide.
