The Dauntless Career of Eliab Wright Metcalf of Elyria
This chapter chronicles Eliab Wright Metcalf also known as J. W. Metcalf, a self taught yet brilliant legal mind who never held office or studied law formally. It traces his early poverty driven life in Milo Maine and Bangor Maine to his bold fight in Congress and later in Geneva Alabama Claims arbitration, where his stand helped secure the Geneva Award and subsequent compensation for shipowners and insurers.
