Seniors not top crime targets in US study
A Justice Department analysis shows Americans 65 and older suffer violent crime at far lower rates than those aged 12 to 64 from 1992 to 1997, with 5 violent crimes per 1,000 elderly vs 56 per 1,000 among younger adults. Parade replaces protests for young Elian
Six year old Elian Gonzalez watched a Three Kings Day parade in Little Havana with relatives as city protests over sending him back to Cuba paused. The event shifted focus from anti Fidel demonstrations to a celebration along Calle Ocho with Elian waving a Cuban and a U S flag. Officials noted a temporary halt to protests while legal efforts to keep him in the United States continued ahead of a federal ruling expected by January 14 and a House committee subpoena for Elian’s testimony set for February 10.
