March start set for Huron bypass project

Ohio approves seat belt law moving into effect this summer

Columbus AP reports the Ohio Senate passes the seat belt bill 17-14 sending it to Governor Celeste for signing. The measure becomes effective 90 days after approval with a 60 day warning grace period, then fines of 20 dollars for drivers and 10 dollars for unbuckled front seat passengers. Police may not stop for belt checks. House changes relax fines for passengers and exempt back seats. violations start after the grace period.

Elyria imposes tougher parking law raising fines

Judge John Howard of Elyria Municipal Court warned the city’s new parking law could penalize innocent drivers as offenses rise from minor to fourth degree misdemeanors with fines up to 250 dollars. He noted dockets swelling with cases and questioned liability when company cars are involved. The city council passed the measure to free downtown spaces by limiting parking to two hours and allows two years to punish violators.

Bond denied decline in Emma Bauer case at Vermilion court

Emma Bauer 45 appeared in Vermilion Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated murder for allegedly shooting her husband Raymond Bauer five times at their Cummings Road home. Judge Joseph T Ryan kept bond at 100 000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Tuesday at 8 30 am.
