Pension funds seek role in GM successor selection
Two large pension funds California Public Employees Retirement System and New York State and Local Retirement System asked GM directors for input on the choosing of a new chairman as Roger B. Smith plans to retire this year. They urged access to the confidential selection process and the performance standards for the next management era. The outside directors were slated to meet with Smith to discuss succession.

Cold snap blamed for rise in gas prices nationwide
