Amherst petitions target rate cut vote
Former Amherst mayor and six residents plan two initiative petitions to place on the November ballot rate cuts for sewer and electricity. Proposals include sewer bills cut from 21 to 9 dollars monthly, commercial rates to 1.80 per 1000 gallons, and a single free electricity month with a 15 percent overall rate reduction. Mayor Jaworski warns financial strain and stalled capital upgrades. DePaola argues surplus funds support the move.
