Dig out-then hole up as record snowfall hits Lorain County

A 12 hour snowfall Sunday produced a record five inches breaking 1977's date record. Temperatures will rise and fall with highs near the teens to mid 20s and tonight near zero to five above. A 20 percent chance of more snow tonight and Tuesday. Two Columbia Station youths injured in a sledding accident on East Capel Road. Andrew Osterndorff 18 leg and Vern Bruce 17 arm injuries. Driver Clayton Johnson 18 not charged. under investigation. Local police report several fender benders. city kept streets largely clear without a full parking ban.

Rhodes promises more school aid in Ohio inaugural

Governor James A. Rhodes pledged more state aid for education and aimed to attract industry while vowing no new taxes in his inaugural address. Kucinich calls state takeover move treason

A second floor apartment fire at 5537 Beavercrest Drive, Fairway Manor, Lorain killed newlywed Russell Resko 19, wife Anita 17, and their seven month old daughter Brandy. Autopsy planned. fire marshal cites suspicious cause pending lab results. About $7,000 damage.

AmShip unions reject contract offer in six-union strike

Members of six affiliated unions at AmShip Division voted 749 to 32 in Lorain and Toledo and 420 to 12 in Lorain against acceptance, with Chicago results not yet reported, keeping a 147 day strike against American Shipbuilding Co. going. The union leaders cited details withheld and an $8 million company damage suit as factors behind the overwhelming rejection.
