Weather Ice Storm Hits Northeast in 1953
On January 7 1953 an ice storm dropped 1.3 inches across parts of eastern Pennsylvania New Jersey and Connecticut. Norwalk Connecticut suffered widespread outages with 96 percent of residents losing telephone and electric service.

OSU researcher aims to reach melting New Guinea glaciers
Ohio State University glaciologist Lonnie Thompson plans a May to June 2009 expedition to Pun cak Jaya in Papua New Guinea to drill ice cores and recover a climate archive. The project, supported by Freeport McMoRan airlift, aims to document El Nino history and future impacts as regional glaciers rapidly shrink.
