Silent killer carbon monoxide risks in homes

In Sullivan Ohio a carbon monoxide alarm prompted Rosemary Rice to realize the danger when she mistook the alert for a battery. She describes disorientation before understanding the gas has no smell. Ohio records show 37 CO deaths in 1998 and Elyria Fire reports 150 high CO calls last year. Common sources include home heating cooking equipment furnaces stoves garages and exhaust from vehicles.
