Assault on Miss Grace Carter Leads to Arrest

Charles Williams, a color ed man about 25, is held at the police station on unprovoked assault charges after attacking Grace Carter 27 a stenographer for Enameled Products Co as she walked home at 730 pm Saturday. She was wounded by a knife slash to the side and taken to Memorial hospital. Williams was identified by Carter and captured on West Bridge street bridge. He denied the crime claiming to have been at a movie and was bound over to the grand jury on a $5000 bond.

Ku Klux Klan leader Freese and six other witnesses were subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury about the Roger Thompson blackmail case. Thompson fled after a sensational confession by Mrs. Renner who named other women as victims and described threats from a "Klan Guard" letter. Freese denies Klan involvement. Renner confirms threatening notes and a plan to remove Thompson from the country.

Auto Losses Porch In Street Crash

A vehicle lost control on Veland Street near Lonxtora and struck a curb and yard, damaging a porch at J. D. Lystgat’s residence. The impact moved the porch about ten inches and the driver claimed to be a carpenter ready to repair the damage.

Six Firemen Injured In Canton Clothing Store Blaze

Six firefighters were injured, one seriously, when a wall collapsed during a $25,000 blaze at a Canton clothing store. The two story frame building, leased by H. H. Two workers Sambro Mitra and George Moran were killed Sunday while maintaining an interlocking track near the round house on the New York Central line in a snowbound area.
