Ethiopian Jews begin historic transfer to Israel amid cultural integration
In Ashkelon and throughout Israel Ethiopian families arrive after a perilous migration. About 13,000 have reached Israel with 12,000 remaining in Ethiopia as authorities fear premature exposure could jeopardize the airlift. Immigrants face medical needs, absorption costs, and challenges blending into Israeli society while many learn Hebrew and join schools and the army.

Elyria’s Garford shaped industry across decades
A historic overview recalls Elyria’s early industrial growth centered on Harshaw Chemical and Garford’s bicycle saddle plant. It traces his leadership across companies from Cedar Street to Clark Street, noting his 1933 death, the Ridgewood complex, and his lasting yet underappreciated impact alongside Herman Ely. The piece invites a drive to view his era’s buildings and his Washington Avenue home, now Lorain County Historical Society.
