The Most Rev Anthony M designated bishop elect will be installed as the ninth bishop of the Cleveland Diocese at 4 p.m. today at St John Cathedral in Cleveland. The ceremony is covered in the B-1 story with C-T photo by Gene Krebs.
Former Cleveland Browns running back Larry Collins reported a home burglary in Berea at 664 Tauton Circle. Police say more than $6,000 in stereo equipment and nearly $1,500 in clothing were stolen, with the break in likely occurring between Oct 20 and New Year Eve's. Collins now lives in San Antonio and is attempting to sell the Berea home.
Buckeye High School opened its doors to three white girls under orders of state district Judge Richard Lee despite federal court rulings. Police escorted the students as Lee vowed he would press attempts to desegregate, while Principal Charles Waites and local officials sought to avoid a scene.
Lorain council delays the Quail Run Estates zoning and site plan for the third time amid strong resident opposition. Developer John Ranft and officials faced objections over traffic and sewer improvements totaling about 160000 dollars, with calls to send the measure back to committee after a second reading failure.
A winter storm warning covers western Ohio with two to four inches of new snow mixed with freezing rain or sleet. Eastern Ohio may see three inches of snow with possible freezing rain. Freezing precipitation began in Cincinnati and is moving northeast. Road conditions will be hazardous with strong winds and wind chills down to 28 below in some areas tonight and Wednesday. High pressure to move east of Ohio.
