Vandal Shoots Insulator Causing Ohio Edison Outage
A vandal with a high powered rifle is blamed for a power outage affecting 6660 Ohio Edison Co customers in three counties. North Ridgeville lost power for 2 hours 37 minutes while Columbia Station Brunswick and Strongsville saw shorter outages. No serious damage reported. clocks failed waking workers.

Toll hits 10 in St. Paul hotel blaze
A predawn flash fire swept the Carleton Hotel in downtown St. Paul trapping guests. Ten bodies were recovered, including three women and seven men, as investigators searched the shell of the building and 17 people were hospitalized with injuries. Firefighters battled the blaze amid near zero cold and melting ice from hydrants.
