FBI chief says Libyan hit squad presence unproven
FBI Director William Webster stated the agency cannot confirm reports of a Libyan assassination squad in the United States. He noted the possibility reports were planted to ridicule U.S. officials and said the FBI has only verified information and threats, not an actual entry of terrorists. He also discussed Soviet espionage, estimating about 400 diplomats are spies, and cited heightened espionage aims on high technology.
