Would buy City Hall lease it to city Glover

Elyria developer Robert Glover proposed buying the Broad Street City Hall building and leasing it back to the city to solve a $425,000 debt issue due January 20. He previously owned the building, sold it to the city in 1974, and now would return ownership via a lease back. City councils weigh the offer as banks and investors show little movement to renew notes.

Small firms new target of gas cuts

Columbia Gas of Ohio seeks permission from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to impose mandatory gas curtailment up to 30 percent on about 19 000 small industrial and commercial customers using 200 000 cubic feet or more monthly. Most affected are retail, professional and government buildings in Lorain Erie Huron and western Cuyahoga counties. Over 500 customers could be hit including Columbia Gas and Chronicle Telegram offices in Elyria. Affected firms may cut hours or adjust operations to meet curtailment while Lorain County schools plan to balance fuel with alternate energy.

Falls girl opens Plum Creek Bridge in Olmsted Falls

Beth Ann Louis 13 opened the pedestrian lane on Plum Creek Bridge after writing to former Cuyahoga County Engineer Albert Porter which helped spur the 30 year old figure from office. Porter had closed the bridge to vehicles and the latest dispute centers on whether to destroy and replace the bridge. Louis and Ronald Stackhouse, who defeated Porter, led the ribbon cutting amid local praise and attention.

Boycotts rise as coffee prices spike nationwide
