Third candidate named for Lorain center directorship
At last night’s board meeting a third candidate was named for the Lorain Multi- Service Center director post. Edward Buchanan of Oberlin appeared, but no details were released and he could not be reached for comment. Other contenders remain Melvin Robb of Cleveland and Christopher Douglas from Bowling Green State University. Douglas claims a Brandeis PhD (1973) but Brandeis officials say he has not completed degree requirements. He is suspended at Bowling Green until Jan. 10 to prove the PhD or leave. The board did not rule on his disqualification and noted only that resumes would be reviewed. Douglas had been set for a Dec. 27 interview but did not attend, reportedly seeking a $175 appearance fee that the board balked at. he has since accepted $100. Michael Shlensky was designated interim center supervisor, spending 15-25 hours weekly at the center, with staff orientation and supervision to follow, though no major program changes until a director is hired. The board has not added new members since a mass resignation last month. five Community organizations remain involved in the search. The next board meeting is Feb. 14, with a Jan. 15 work session and a Jan. 29 special meeting planned.
