Real estate tax rates up in 50 county districts
Lorain County auditors released new real estate tax rates covering 50 of 71 taxing districts and showing increases from last year. Rates, shown in mills, will apply to bills sent to taxpayers using millage times property valuations, with Amherst Township and Elyria City School District among examples. Rail derailment halts line. traffic resumes after damage
A freight derailment near Coen Road west of Vermilion damaged 14 cars plus a following unit, scattering perishables and aluminum across the Nickel Plate tracks. The wreck occurred as an eastbound Chicago to Peoria freight, rerouted after the incident, crossed the switch. No injuries were reported. crews worked to remove damaged cars and resume service.

Dangerous Intersection Cited After Fatal Truck Car Crash
Sam Serie Jr. driver of a semi truck involved in a fatal crash at Abbe Road and Route 254 near Detroit Road. Robert W. Ingram, 40, died when his car collided with the truck and a telephone pole. Investigators noted ice patches, lack of skid marks from the car, and questioned stoplight maintenance at the intersection.
