County seeks larger share of local government funds

Lorain County commissioners announced they will request a bigger portion of about 1.1 million dollars in local government funds distributed annually by the Lorain County Budget Commission. They argue the county is entitled to the 30 percent maximum based on need, noting current receipts around 38 percent totaling 685,000 last year. Increasing the county share would shift funds away from townships and municipalities, a point of contention across the area. The budget commission, including Auditor Frank Ayres, Treasurer Gene A. Troup, and Prosecutor Paul J. Mikus, manages the distribution under state law, with allocations often held until yearend subdivision balances are provided.
