Record of Pacific Storm Toll Hits Niigata Villages
Reports from Honolulu and Tokyo indicate a severe storm across Japan and the Western Pacific, with at least seventy-two deaths including forty in Niigata prefecture. Moderate earthquakes, frigid temperatures, and high winds caused widespread destruction, paralyzing rail and通信 wires, with 270 homes demolished in Niigata towns and several vessels lost at sea.
