State Education Under New Board Control Proposal
Columbus Ohio January 4 The joint legislative committee on public economy will recommend placing the state department of education under a governor appointed board of up to five members. The panel would appoint the education director and seek a constitutional amendment to remove the governor’s four year appointment provision. The committee favors moving the geological survey division to Ohio State University and consolidating examining boards within the education department. It also proposes transferring Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home at Xenia and increasing teacher salaries at schools for the deaf and blind.
