Muslim punk bands spark a new South Asian rock scene
In Wayland Massachusetts and beyond a loose network of Muslim and Hindu immigrant youths form bands like The Kominas and The Rominas. They fuse punk with South Asian and Middle Eastern themes, face criticism from traditional Muslims, and tour small clubs while balancing day jobs. The movement traces to thenovel TAqwacore and a 2007 Muslim punk tour.
