Elyria’s first two fires of the year were subdued by three firefighters. A car fire near Central Fire Station was put out with an extinguisher after 12:30 a.m. A cigarette caused two holes in seat cushions. A chimney fire at 815 West River Street involved soot in a chimney and a damaged flue pipe, with flames burning lath and wallpaper. no major damage reported.

Patricia Hoke daughter of Dr George Hoke of 316 Stanford avenue is recovering at home after bruises and lacerations from a Lakewood crash Friday night as she traveled home from Cleveland with Beverly Wright Bob Yanke and Bud Geigey. Their car skid into a pole on Clifton Boulevard. Hoke was taken to Lakewood Hospital and released the next day. Other occupants had minor injuries. In Cleveland Ohio a gang cut through a 15 inch brick vault wall at Postal Station B over the holiday weekend and removed about 26000 dollars in cash stamps and registered mail.
