Fiery Route 57 Crash Kills Two in Grafton Township
Two people died in a late night crash on state Route 57 near Highland Drive in Grafton Township. A northbound pickup crossed left of center and was struck by a southbound semi, both catching fire. The pickup driver Donald E Berg 49 of Columbia Station died at the scene. a passenger also died. The semi driver William T Bennett 35 of Louisville Ohio sustained minor injuries.

Lorain County union to challenge imposed contract
Lorain County maintenance and other workers reported to the commissioners face a three year contract imposed without a union vote. United Steelworkers Local 8845 president Jeff Blackstone says the terms include a pay freeze, loss of longevity pay, reduced time off, and other give backs. The agreement takes effect today replacing the 2009 agreement.

Victim of Elyria fire found solace in Salvation Army work
Frank Sabol 54 died from smoke inhalation in a West River Road North home fire. He volunteered at Elyria Salvation Army, cleaning and sorting donations on Christmas Eve and previously through community service. State fire investigators have undetermined cause, considering space heater or smoking materials as possibilities. Pelletier called him a quiet, helpful man who kept returning to volunteer.

Robbers invade Elyria home taking cash and pants
Lorain man and his girlfriend were awakened before 3:30 a.m. by three blasts at the door on Infirmary Road. Armed intruders forced their way into the residence and fled with about 400 dollars and the victim’s pants while the couple’s 2 month old daughter was inside. Frances Torres said she warned the intruders and pleaded to spare the child.
