Columbia library hosts a winter craft program for third through sixth graders at 2:30 and 4 p m on Jan 27. Ruth Thompson leads simple crafts with all materials provided. Pre-register at the library or by calling 236-8751.
A line dancing class to raise funds for Amherst Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. Monday in the Grange Hall on Milan Avenue with instructors Bob and Patty Bates. The $5 fee at the door welcomes all ages and experience levels for a fun aerobic workout and social time.
About $2000 worth of aluminum was stolen from Gehrke and Son Manufacturing Co on 11th Street in Lorain. Owner Robert Gehrke reported a broken seal on a 5/8 inch aluminum bundle and missing pieces after employees cleaned the site. A former employee faces charges for a December 14 fire at the same plant. Police traced the metal through scrap yards and a tip from Marc Wyman of Blue Star Metals Elyria about a suspect described as 5 feet 8 inches, 180 pounds with dark features driving a gray white and maroon conversion van.
