Tips for Growing Roses in Raised Beds and Beds Prep
Learn rose cultivation from soil prep to pruning. Use raised beds two to three timbers high with 6 to 8 inches of tilled soil, mix one third sand and one third humus, add lime and super phosphate, and aim for a pH of 6.2 to 6.8. Space hybrids 3 to 3 1/2 feet, ramblers and shrub roses farther apart. After frost prune lightly to about 3 feet, heel in with mulch, protect graft, then prune in late Feb or early March removing dead wood and pencil-thin canes and restore graft exposure. Fertilize with gypsum, cottonseed meal, urea, and seaweed, scratch in, then water well.
