1977 a year in review for women in the United States
A flaming women's rights relay traced from Seneca Falls to Houston as 2000 delegates at the National Women Conferences backed 25 of 26 resolutions in a National Plan of Action. ERA and abortion rights dominated debate while Schlafly led a counter-movement. Betsy Friedan and Eleanor Smeal urged action. Rosy Carter and First Ladies amplified support. Amy Carter drew media spotlight as the first White House child to attend public school in seven decades.
