NASA chief regrets not making call on shuttle survey
NASA Administrator Sean O Keefe told Congress he should have been part of the decision to cancel a Defense Department photographic survey of the space shuttle Columbia days before its disintegration. He said he was unaware of much internal debate and could not identify who requested or withdrew the surveillance. He noted past DoD photos were inadequate for assessing tile damage and suggested ground imaging would have limited help. The Gehman board findings will guide NASA going forward.
