The South Amherst School Board reversed a prior vote and approved a retirement tax deferral for 40 teachers, saving each up to 400 annually. The measure, effective April 11, defers income tax on retirement benefits from the state retirement system and costs the district nothing.
City officials in Sheffield Lake schedule a public meeting at city hall to address issues in managing the Sheffield Lake Community Center. Topics include renovation of the police department, Building and Lands Committee at 8 p.m. and Finance Committee review of drawings with funds already appropriated.
Lorain County commissioners approve annexing 26.76 acres of Wellington Township into the Village of Wellington despite opposition from township trustees who own about 3 acres in the parcel. The land includes a mobile home park and private homes and would receive Wellington utilities at the same rates, finalizing a move prompted by petitions from property owners.
Spencer street issues crop up as North Main Street pavement deteriorates for months. Consulting engineer Cork Chick cites $41,572 for both projects and says asphalt approved by the Ohio Department of Transportation may be faulty. If proven, North Main will be stripped and repaired at no charge. Council also announced junk car owners will receive removal notices with possible $100 fines.
