Oberlin FAA furloughs hit air traffic center staff
Oberlin technicians at the Oberlin Air Traffic Control Center will be furloughed one day every two weeks for 24 weeks starting April 4. The move affects about 110 technicians and mirrors nationwide austerity plans by the FAA. Technicians at Cleveland Hopkins and Burke Lakefront are similarly impacted. Officials expect a 30 million dollar savings while warning of reduced maintenance reliability. Perkins notes the Oberlin force has already shrunk from over 130 in three years and condemns the timing as unfair after aiding the FAA during last year’s controller strike. FAA spokesmen did not comment.
